Walking Away from a Spiritually Abusive Church

After finally making the decision TO LEAVE, I can clearly remember quickly facing the twin emotional and mental road blocks of -"When to leave?" and "How to leave?"  I recall speaking with a friend and expecting some really "deep" wisdom and revelation on the matter.  He simply said, "You want to know the right way to leave?  PUT ONE FOOT INFRONT OF THE OTHER and WALK OUT the door."  At the time, I thought that was the most insensitive thing I had ever heard..of course now after several years, I look back and realize that WAS the sober reality and the most liberating advice to give on the situation.

The most difficult phase of a spiritually abusive experience is usually the exit process.  The question then becomes: Should I leave my church? That question can only be answered by you.  I hope that you find the resources on this website helpful in your journey through the process of recovery from spiritual abuse.

HOW TO LEAVE A PARTICULAR FELLOWSHIP OF BELIEVERS:
The TRUTH of the matter is...There is NO "right way" to leave a church.  BUT there is a way (by departing from your relationship with Christ) you can leave THE Church.  Simply because you choose to depart from a specific church group, does not mean you are no longer part of the Body of Christ -which is THE CHURCH.  New Testament scripture clearly outlines for us on how we are to properly maintain relationships within the entire Body of Christ..not merely to a select body or building.  That is why you will not find any “protocol anointing” taught in the NT.  Church structure is NOT set up by man’s standards of “protocol”…this would be an unstable foundation. (Actually most of our familiar “church protocols” are rooted in culture, “folk theology”, and other various denominational traditions…)

The New Testament is also loaded with examples of Christians who came and went at their pleasure, on their own initiative and choosing. There is no evidence of "permission" necessary from any other person. For example, Aquila moved from Rome to Corinth (Acts 18:1-2), then went to Ephesus with
Paul (Acts 18:18). Later he is found in Rome again (Romans 16:3) and Ephesus (1 Corinthians 16:19, 2 Timothy 4:19).  Apollos was asked to go to Corinth from Ephesus, and clearly was free to decide if and when he would make such a move (1 Corinthians 16:12). Even Paul wanted to visit Rome simply because he ran out of places to preach in his immediate area (Romans 15:23).

As far as judging matters within the church, Paul taught extensively on this subject.  A few years after leaving, Paul the apostle heard some disturbing reports about the Corinthian church. They were full of pride and were excusing sexual immorality (instead of taking ownership of it). Spiritual gifts were also being used improperly, and there were rampant misunderstandings of key Christian doctrines. Paul wrote his first letter to the Corinthians in an attempt to restore the Corinthian church to its foundation—Jesus Christ.  In I Cor. 5: 9-13  Paul says, “I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters.  In that case you would have to leave this world.  But now I am writing to you that you must NOT associate with any who claim to be fellow believers BUT are
1) Sexually immoral
2) Greedy
3) Idolaters
4) Slanderers
5) Drunkards
6) Swindlers
With such persons do not even eat. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church?  Are you not to judge those inside?”  This clearly indicates that we are to judge and establish our relationship with other believers (which includes leaders) based on THEIR FRUIT, not their gift.  So this is NOT a matter of being PERFECT (as some would say).  We know this because in Gal. 6…we are instructed to REINSTATE a brethren overtaken in a fault, but only AFTER he has responded to discipline and repented of sin. Then he is brought back into the fellowship and restored –NOT AFTER he says it’s “an attack”.   Remember, blessed are those who are persecuted for RIGHTEOUSNESS, not UNRIGHTEOUS ACTS.  Bottom line, read the scriptures for yourselves and use the Word for the basis of sound doctrine.…

Even in the early church there were irreconcilable differences
At times they had some "sharp disagreements" of their own. In the conflict between Paul and Barnabas in Acts 15, both brothers had legitimate positions on an issue and yet clearly the positions were mutually exclusive. It was not possible to remain "together" and show respect for each legitimate position. In this case, a parting was necessary and served to benefit all involved. Two mission teams went out instead of one; in the end more people were impacted as a result.

BEING INDIVIDUALLY LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT (AS HE WILLS):
Although God uses people at times to confirm His will, he primarily speaks to us individually and directly as to what His will is.  The bottom line:  “There is but ONE Mediator between man and God –Jesus Christ.”  There is no longer a High Priest or Prophet solely required to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit –that is Old Testament teaching.  “Those that are LED by the Spirit of God, THEY are the sons of God.”  In a spiritually abusive church, you will often hear that you are called to a Pastor and He will properly “release you” when and if it is God’s will.  Well my question is:  “What previous Pastor “released you” to him and told you to join his church?”  See, the SAP (Spiritually-Abusive-Pastor) must maintain control over the members because he has systematically taught them to look to him for the final say-so on God’s will, instead of knowing the voice of the Holy Spirit for yourself!  “Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw disciples after THEM” –not our Lord.

It is vital to your walk with the Lord to be able to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit and follow Him for yourself.  I’m reminded of the “Young Prophet” and “Old Prophet” of I Kings 13.  The young prophet is not named; he is sometimes referred to as the young prophet in contrast to the "old prophet" in Bethel.  This young prophet came out of Judah "by the word of the Lord".  He cried out against the King and the corruption in the worship of God.  Unlike Balaam, he refused to be paid off.  The prophet had been given instructions by God -"Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest," was the instruction.  The old prophet arranged for the young prophet to come to his house and eat bread and drink water.  The young prophet faithfully refused. The old prophet persuaded to reason with him, "I am a prophet also...and an angel spake unto me by the word of the Lord, saying bring him back...that he may eat bread and drink water." Notice the end of the verse 18: "But he lied to him".  The young prophet believed the prophet and disobeyed God. As a result, this young prophet was killed. It was said of him, "It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the Lord".  Notice it didn’t say it was the older prophet who was disobedient, but the one whom the instruction came to.  Always take God's word over what man says.

Furthermore:
(I Cor. 2)  However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" BUT God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.  The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.  This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things...For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."

WHEN TO LEAVE:
I would say that if God has shown you that you ARE to leave, but hasn’t given you a “specific date”…then He probably means NOW.  There is never going to be a “good” time to pick up your roots and relocate.  We may have children, ministry involvement, projects, upcoming events, etc.  Whether you talk to someone in a leadership position or not, may not make the "announcement" any easier.  But, once you KNOW what to do…TRUST God for the strength and exercise your FAITH.  You don't need to worry about the opinions of others when you have a Word from God.  So don’t get caught up in the rut of “figuring it all out” before you leave.  I promise you…this is usually a mistake and is likely to never happen.  It’s AS YOU MOVE FORWARD, things always become clearer.  SAP’s like tell you that you cannot leave your church until you have another one.  I recall what God told Abram, “Leave your people and your country and come to the land that I WILL show you.”  Most often when people are deeply rooted in a Spiritually Abusive Church, there is a transition period that takes place after they leave…where a lot of much needed healing and teaching occur.  (This is what I call "changing your filter".)  One of my most valuable lessons in this time is that God doesn't always require me to "DO", sometimes I just need to "BE."  Friends, He is faithful, but we must come to a place of maturity where we study His word, know His will, and follow the voice of the Great Shepherd and Overseer of our Soul –Jesus Christ.

  1. This is a good post and I think it's likely to be helpful to people who are thinking of leaving a Church due to abuse. I have relatives who elected to stay with their Church in spite of an abusive minister (actually a mentally ill minister), who was eventually replaced. In hindsight, they probably should have left and returned once the minister was replaced.

  3. The heretical teachings at the Heaven On Earth conference where blatant. I find it amazing that when it comes to "sin" and living like a heathen, the grace of God and Jesus death is sufficient, but when it comes to giving the pimps money/offerings we need new levels, new anointings, more prayer, more blah blah blah...the veil is growing thinner? The veil was rent from top to bottom, the veil covering the scheming "men of gawwd" is the only thing growing thinner. I think that is what God is really trying to tell this people, but they are so lost and blind to their own way that they twist everything God is saying/doing to benefit their bank accounts.

The veil is growing thinner take heed, its almost transparent now. A little more time and all will be exposed.

  4. I hear they have already shifted too. I shifted years ago. Glad to hear the "they"s are catching up. ;)

  5. Is there anyone other than me that find posts like this by Michael Pitts insanely egotistical and arrogant? "im listening for sounds from heaven..if thats not you..do not disturb..ive already shifted.." Aside from the fact that he can't spell (guess they don't teach that at Bishops school), who is to say he's hearing from heaven and how is he fit to say who is not?

  6. "Do not Disturb" = what every demonic stronghold desires... to be LEFT ALONE! But wait!

JESUS stated, "unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him."

SO JESUS WANTS TO DISTURB EVIL-LEAVENED RELIGIOUS DEVILS!!! (who we are NOT TO FEAR AT ALL, IN THE LEAST) Hallelujah!

  7. The shift happened 2000 years ago when Jesus rent the veil from top to bottom by his sacrificial atonement for the world. There are no more "shifts", levels, dimensions, anointings, or any other thing that these men make up with no Biblical basis at all.

Michael trys to convince you that you still need something that...YOU ALREADY HAVE IN CHRIST. The problem is...if you already have it then you are just going to continue down the road of trying to pursue something (levels, shifts, anointings) that does not exist. It is vain and futile and sooner or later like most, you realize its all smoke and mirrors to pad their pockets and pay for lavish living.

You eventually get disillusioned and SHIFT out of that place and begin your journey back to Christ ALONE.

The shift that needs to happen is one of humility, love, and gentleness towards those who have sacrificed their lives for his "vision" and then were kicked to the curb when they starting hearing God for themselves (God forbid).

Michael LITERALLY thinks that if God is going to talk to you that HE CAN ONLY DO IT THROUGH "him" since he is the headship which is usurping the authority of Christ in a persons life.(Watch the end of the Glory video part 1 on their website).

That is arrogant, its presumptious, and its going to lead to one thing: destruction and judgement.

Pride always comes before the fall. It is inevitable. Its just when.

  9. Where is the Biblical basis for some sort of "shift" taking place?

Again, more and more of this stuff has no Biblical scripture or basis to stand on at all.

Where is the scripture for disconnect from disrespect?

I thought we were supposed to base our beliefs on sound doctrine?

Here is a scripture for you from the BIBLE from this guy called JESUS, you know, the person you are supposed to listen to for life guidance and salvation:

    Luke 20:46-47

"Beware of the teachers of the law (OT style of leadership). They like to walk around in flowing (bishop)robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely."

I didn't say it, Jesus did. I will stick with the Bible rather than false prophecies with no scriptural basis. Good luck with the "shift".

  10. Another sign of hypocrisy. Spend years teaching against the religious ways of the Catholic Church and make fun of the robes and dog collars and then do the same thing.

How many signs do you need?

  11. Whats hilarious about the whole situation, when I read MP's facebook and see the people who respond, I know a number of those people and I know they spend a great deal of their time drinking heavily, going to see strippers, going to bars, etc. The only time they spend in the "heavenly realms" are in church or on their facebook status...so they can't come out of there so called "heavenly realms" to examine or discuss their theology to determine if it is false or true, but they can come out of their heavenly realms to get their drink on. Considering what I know of MP, sounds about right...

  12. More "DO NOT DISTURB" musings (from the actual WORD OF GOD)

And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil (just like 'da Bishop and his harem??), and cried out with a loud voice, Saying, LET US ALONE; WHAT HAVE WE TO DO WITH THEE, THOU JESUS OF NAZARETH? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

So again... in the WORD OF GOD, the ONLY ONES we see crying "Do Not Disturb" are the Unclean Devils possessing those who were quite comfortable hiding in "the 'Stone"-- attending another dead religious system. How's that for a SHIFT???

  13. Also, just to let you in on a little secret.

You can actually read the Bible for yourself and God will reveal Himself to you just like HE does any other "Bishop".

If there are things being taught that you can't find being taught in the NEW TESTAMENT then that means your not in line with the BIBLE.

We don't practice OT style of leadership today. We have all been made KINGS AND PRIESTS by HIM. No need for a mediator anymore.

Jesus is the HEAD and we are the body. Michael is not the HEAD. He may be the HEAD of the Corporation but he is not the head of the "church" in Toledo.

False teaching, doctrines of men, old wives tales, and fables ARE NOT TO BE FOLLOWED.

Resist the temptation to be hypnotized by fanciful promises that are NOT BIBLICAL.

Shift back to Jesus and reality today.

  16. To "Holy Ghost":
I believe you are referring to the I.C.C.C organization that recently "installed" Michael Pitts underneath their umbrella. This organization was birthed by the Roman Catholic Church. (Hence the Catholic titles, robes, collars, and mega crosses.) In 1975 David DuPlessis (known as Mr. Pentecost) was called upon by Pope Paul VI to create and mediate the Roman Catholic-Pentecostal Dialogues. The purposes of the dialogues were to foster understanding and to create room within the Roman Catholic Churches for the many Roman Catholic members who were fleeing the Church for Pentecostal Churches and denominations. The Pope thought that by creating this partnership the Roman Catholic members would be kept in the fold.

This is a QUOTE from their "Creed Page":
"The International Communion of Charismatic Churches is “Catholic – wherever Jesus is present” in our conviction that the church of the Lord Jesus Christ is one Holy and Apostolic Church."
    (resource: http://www.theiccc.com/aboutUs.html)
    ----------
In the OT the priesthood served as a picture or "type" of the coming ministry of Jesus Christ--a picture that was then no longer needed once His sacrifice on the cross was completed. When the thick temple veil that covered the doorway to the Holy of holies was torn in two by God at the time of Christ's death, God was indicating that the OT priesthood was NO LONGER necessary. Now people could come directly to God through the great High Priest, Jesus Christ!

*So why would a Pastor who has been commissioned by God and anointed by the Holy Spirit need ANY fleshly validation or affiliation from the Roman Catholic Church?

John 3:6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
I Tim. 2:5 “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus..”

No “special anointing” or “greater level of holiness” are simply transferred onto those who parade around in flashy robes and rings, or given recognition from religious, man-made positions/titles...
AND so there are no "special blessings” or “spiritual covering” to be received just because you sit under such religious leaders. This “set man theology” is a mockery of the crucifixion of Christ and is idolatry.

  17. I forgot myself there for a moment. It should tell all of humanity something if even the Holy Ghost cannot discern Catholic from Cornerstone.

Cornerstone does not use prayer beads. They use prayer cloths. Cornerstone does not recognize the Pope, they recognize Poppa (which is what "Pope" actually means, by the way).

  18. Why do we make everything so over complicated:

    2 Cor 11:2

For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

It is as true today as it was back then...

  19. I did not know this about Cornerstone Church, I left the Catholic Church years ago because of their leadership style and how I saw it affect my family and friends. I good friend of mine was molested by one of those "Bishops" "Popes" "Poppas".

I have a very queasy feeling in my stomach right now reading what I just read about the ICCC. I have been attending Cornerstone for years and I remember the days well when Bishop used to make jibes at the Catholic Church (gaudy robes, dracula crosses and dog collars, how the giant head pieces they wore were symbol in honor of a pagan God). I remember back in those days thinking how heroic it was of Bishop to call them out.

Things have changed so much over the years. A friend of mine who left the church told me to read this blog. It's been a confirmation of sorts of everything I know deep down in my spirit to be true.

Whoever is writing this blog, thank you, I know this must be difficult for you.

And also, thank you for the kind words! Those feelings are expressed by so many that have been led to leave Cornerstone. Most people aren't necessarily "hurt" as much as they are disappointed. In the end, it's "what could have been" that makes the situation so sad. But, God is in control and He has a way of using it all for His glory! You will see...Praise God!

"They need to grow-up, get over it and move on with their lives." That hurt deeply... Why do these attitudes continue to surprise me? I would think that by now I would know better. 24. From The New Oxford American Dictionary-
    CULT|kəlt|: noun
-a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object : the cult of St. Olaf.
    • a relatively small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister : a network of Satan-worshiping cults.
    • a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing : a cult of personality surrounding the leaders.

  25. Historically, CC would NEVER call to inquire why a person left or encourage them to return but I understand from posts made by a Pastoral staff member that they are revisiting this policy. Apparently, not because they are concerned for the souls of those leaving but rather the volume (and presumably income) of members lost. Further, the possibility that they are feeding information to forums such as this . . . Keep up the good work!

  26. Part 1:

Re: Speaking Truth in Love "Most people aren't necessarily "hurt" as much as they are disappointed. In the end, it's "what could have been" that makes the situation so sad."

I think we feel this way because we don't want to chalk up the time, efforts and money from our involvement as lost. Did I fail to follow the spirit when I stayed for so long? Maybe so, but I have to believe that something good was accomplished during my involvement. I grew in God and helped others grow in God. Have things moved into error? Yes. Is it time to move on? Yes. The reason for the feelings of disappointment in my heart when I left was due to thinking that God was "taking us somewhere" and if that's not true, then I wasted my life for 13 years.

However, that is not time lost. God loved us, lead us, liberated us and did great things during that time, not due to the "ministry", but rather because he is just so good. I'm not so sure that I would have been better off in a Lutheran or Assemblies church. I myself am ultimately responsible for swallowing the load of crap that was pushed as gospel. When I shelved my thirst for listening to the Holy Spirit and exchanged it for parroting the voice of the "pastor", I myself moved into error. I opted to listen to men rather than God. I chose to only read what they told me to read. I relinquished my right as a believer to judge the preached word by the scripture. I became lazy and my carnality was fed by the ego trip and moon-pie promises made from the pulpit.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Part 2:

All I know now is that God works all things for good for those that love him and are called according to his purpose. As we took the step to restore our ear to the leading of the Holy Spirit and stopped idolizing man, we began a journey that Christ paid dearly for. God wants us to intimately relate to him. To "do life" hand in hand with him. To enjoy the fullness of the partnership of the Holy Spirit.

After we leave these personality cults, we must own up to the responsibility that we have to follow the voice of the Holy Spirit. Just obeying when we hear him say to leave the stone is not enough. He is continuing to lead us. He will lead us to churches where people truly care. He will lead us into relationships with other believers where we can truly be transparent and live life in community. He will hone our ear to hear his voice more purely and quickly. These things will heal the hurt of the heart. These things are the responsibility of the believer.

Don't short change yourself and refuse to continue in the freedom you've been lead into. It is hard, but the freedom God gave you is huge. It's a big world out there. Start living. Your days in an abusive church are over. It is finally that "next level". Follow the voice of the Holy Spirit. Walk in your freedom and follow the voice of the Holy Spirit. You are no longer hurt, broken or crippled. You are restored, refreshed and comforted.

There is the Biblical principal that you reap what you sow. That means if you are arrogant and so full of yourself to label people who leave your business as "heathen" and character assasinate them and speak all kinds of lies about them to their friends, then you are going to reap the same thing. Only in this case most the stuff is not lies, its the truth.

That is not Christian Pastor 101 fruit. It is the fruit of a controlling cultic leader who has lost his way to all sorts of evil because he has left God for mammon.

Reaching out to people (even with the wrong motivation) now is too late and its not the answer. The answer is to stop manipulating people with false doctrines to pad your coffers. The answer is to return to your First Love and actually do the things required in the Bible to be what you claim to be. It's pretty simple but it takes a whole lot of humility and actually admitting to your faults and wayward ways and coming clean before the people.

You take a guy like Rich Maus and his family that sacrificed 20 some years for these guys and was paid peanuts and in one fell swoop they kick him to the curb because he feels that God is leading him in another direction. Think about that...20 YEARS OF HIS LIFE SACRIFICING and then they don't even talk to him? For the Love of God, WAKE UP PEOPLE. Where is the Love of God in this picture? They treat people that leave (leaders) like they are now serving the devil.

That shows you how full of themselves they are to presume that they are the only show in town that has the "real" anointing BS.

Line them up: David Martinez, Coach, Larry Mack, Dennis Carey, Rich Maus...and countless others.

I have left corporations for a new job and they don't even treat me like that....they demonstrate more love than these leaders and don't even know Christ.

May God open they eyes of every person that has been bewitched by these ministries and may they flee by the droves and return to their first love.

These ministries preach another jesus folks. Read Galatians all the way through.

  29. To Love Villain:
Thank you for sharing! Well said friend and right on point. This is EXACTLY the hope we have for those passing thru our blog. My prayer is that ALL will be restored, refreshed, and comforted.
With that being said, there are many phases that people find themselves going thru after leaving a spiritually abusive system. Yes, when the “truth of it all” initially hits you…it is quite shocking and very disappointing. There will a bit of emotional loss to deal with as well. All of which varies individually and will depend upon how long you attended, your degree of involvement, and what Cornerstone "meant to you" personally. It takes time to heal and to see the "bigger picture" God intended. But, if you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, He will not let you sink BECAUSE HE bid you to get out of the boat and to walk on the water. Once you get into your journey, the Holy Spirit will begin to show you so many things and ultimately you will THANK GOD for the process. Soon it will no longer feel like you lost anything, because you will be THANKFUL for the invaluable truths you discovered along the way!
There is LIFE after Cornerstone..and yes, that is the next "level" -pursuing Christ alone and letting go of the fear of man. The “Cornerstone” is Christ; it never was a person or place to begin with. Most Cornerstone people are good people –period. Once they leave, they realize that their great passion was simply misdirected and then a whole new world becomes open to them. “BEHOLD, I MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.” -Jesus
So many are experiencing the refreshing times of their transition…a true hunger for Christ alone is being restored and a new found passion for life is being made brand new! Many move onto fulfill their life-long dreams that have been simply WAITING upon them. That’s the beauty…you will discover that you aren’t waiting on God, most often He is waiting on YOU.

I am a member at Cornerstone, for how much longer I do not know, after reading this blog, I will say two weeks tops...I just read the FB status Bishop wrote calling people "heathen" and I am dismayed that a man representing Christ would level these types of words at hurting people. I consider this to be very immature and unprofessional behavior.

My picture of God is not of an egomaniacal power broker who sits in heaven and "laughs" at heathen. On an aside...aren't the "heathen" the very people we (Bishop and Cornerstone Church) are supposed to be trying to reach? Hasn't he allowed his own heathen behavior and the heathen behaviors of the other "leaders" to take over the church in the past ten to fifteen years to it's catastrophic detriment?

I know many people can not see through his blatantly negative attitude toward people...but I have grown quite tired of it.

I had an agreement with God that I would stay and pray for restoration, for maturity for the return of God's presence...I don't see it happening and I'm tired of waiting for people to "get better". It seems to be things only get worse.

Disagreeing with the way someone does things does not make you a heathen, it makes you a thinker, something the church nationwide desperately needs.

Bravo to all of the people involved with this blog and those posting here. The voice of dissent is a valuable commodity and has proven through out the course of history to improve governments, systems, religion, philosophy.

  34. Okay so now I read a post from one of the Cornerstone network pastors:
At the right season, with a preacher that can say something in that season, can breakthrough a portal for the supernatural to flow. Find you a church with a preacher that is seeing the move of God happening in the USA today. Listen to a preacher that can create a moment in that season, and the supernatural will flow!

This is what I see; I see a leader who is stuck in the wonder and amazement of the Holy Spirit on Old Testament men of faith. Wasn't that because the Holy Spirit was only sent to certain individuals in whom God trusted deemed righteous? Now that the Holy Spirit has come to all who claim Jesus as their savior, why do we need this kind of preaching to put us in a place of relying on "Man" to hear from God for us?

    ReplyDelete
  35. His followup posts:
    Pastor Andrew Kennedy writes:
Look at Peter, they were together on the day of Pentecost. But there was something different that year. Its Peter that had the ability to say the right thing in the right moment and created a portal for the supernatural. As Peter spoke 3000 people went through that opening and received supernatural salvation! ... How shall they hear without a preacher
    And another:
There are people that have become doors or gates! They are gates to the heavenlies. Look at Jacob, His experience at Bethal eventually made him a gate! Its not that the gate was necessarily in Bethal, so the mere privilege of being around such people is life changing!

This sounds very much like we are nothing without these "great" men of God to hear from God for us.

    My Bible reads this way;
    1 John 2:27
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
    Nuf said.

I don't know whether you are a frustrated member or being sarcastic. But I will certainly give you the benefit of the doubt.
If the "stupid talk" you are referring to is our commenter’s personal experiences -that's pretty rude to say the least.
Have you read any of our other articles? Please begin with: "Signs of a Spiritually Abusive Church” -It’s pretty much spelled out for you there.
(in a nut shell) Cornerstone is a Spiritually Abusive church-system because the leadership uses their position and their teachings to control and manipulate their members. There is ZERO accountability for their doctrine, finances, and personal actions. Remember? ALL the run-ins with the law are simply brushed off as “attacks". When members question, they are referred to as "stupid sheep." Haven’t you ever heard the belittling from the platform? According to scripture we are to "Submit yourselves, one to another." Paul writes, "Follow me, as I follow Christ." As leaders we are charged to, “Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” THOSE ARE THE FACTS…do you see this fruit from the leadership at Cornerstone?
Michael (bishop) teaches his members that he and Cornerstone are their spiritual-covering. This is false teaching my friend. Do a NT Strong's search on covering and let me know what you come up with. There are several other false teachings that Michael ascribes to...read our other articles for more info.
*As far as coming on this blog to get the scoop on the latest "sin" in the house...this forum is NOT the place. If you are referring to the “current divorce proceedings” or other hearsays –My advice is to go DIRECTLY to the Source. Ask them. Also ask them to give you the SCRIPTURAL requirements for a divorce.
Our focus is to help those who are in transition..to provide encouragement, healing, and proper biblical teaching.
Hopefully this clarified your questions. Thank you and God bless…

He said, This is the word of the Lord which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel.37The corpse of Jezebel shall be like dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel

  42. Hello all!

I came to Christ at Cornerstone Church as a child and I feel God led me back there as a young adult, so I know all of my time there was not in vain.
I defended Cornerstone for so many years to people about it not being a cult... But, when the Pastor gets a DUI and everyone stands up and claps for him, you have to start to wonder. I wish I would have left then when I knew something was wrong, but it was not until years later that I had enough.
I thank God for opening my eyes! It was very difficult to leave, but I know it was the right thing to do.
Thank you to whoever made this web site. People's eyes will be opened eventually. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. PART 1. Let me first say thank you to those who are operating this blog. It’s really a blessing to know that what we are feeling is legitimate..that we are not “off” or “deceived.” It’s also healing in other ways.

I’m going to share our experience. We recently left the church after God opened our eyes to some things (most of what people are talking about on this blog) then instructed us to leave. Although He showed us enough that should have made us high-tail it out of there, it was a very difficult decision.

Not a day goes by that my spirit doesn’t grieve this experience. Most of my time spent with God is spent in tears. At first, it was because of the loss. Then it was because of the deceit and betrayal…re-opening wounds. Then it was confusion about God – what is real, what is not. Then came the anger. This is not some made-up experience that allows people who left to retaliate. No, this is real. It has happened to enough people! My fear is that the hurt will be deeper as the control, manipulation, lack of love and deceit reaches an all-time high. But I trust my God and I pray often for protection over the body, over my friends and “family” there who cannot see the truth right now…just like we didn’t for many years.

Leadership always made these unsettling feelings we had seem okay or the blame would go elsewhere. They would address these issues (sermons, meetings, etc. –) in a way that made you feel like if you had these feelings, you were rebellious or weren’t under the covering of Bishop….or some other kind of twist. And, of course, when you are rebellious (the sin of Satan that got him kicked out of heaven) or not under covering, your world would fall apart.

    ReplyDelete
  44. PART 2. Well, we have experienced otherwise since leaving. Our incomes have increased (TRIPLED), we realized the WORD says God is our covering (and He has been), we found a church that we really like (and where the love of God is preached and experienced, along with – and I know this is a tough one – the presence of God being apparent there). We also aren’t manipulated into to tithing - it’s between us and God. The giving is done after church, in private, so as to not exalt ourselves (this is scriptural - it is to support the pastoral staff as Paul discusses in 1 Cor. 9:1-14, not entitle them to lavish lifestyles).

We’ve also discovered that the “anointing” and gifts are not for ourselves, to keep going back and getting more for our own satisfaction, night after night or week after week. The gifts we received are to be used for ministry – going out and reaching the lost. What’s the point of this ongoing glory, these manifestions, if it doesn’t advance the kingdom? How does it demonstrate the glory of God to others outside the church when we’re always inside, going up to the altar to receive? Those who really need us, who are different than us, who have lost hope, who need just a little something to make it through the night – let’s use our gifts for them!

In all fairness, I have to say that we received some good things at Cornerstone. The initial impartations, some of the teachings (the ones that are sound doctrine and not preached for their own purposes), the emotional and physical healings we received (but let me be clear - it was God who healed me, not a man, not a “house”). We also met some really incredible, awesome, top-notch people while at C-Stone and we’re so thankful for that.

Yet, today and every day since leaving, there is the hurt, betrayal, distrust, confusion and “de-programming” to deal with. This may not be true for everyone but it’s true for me. I know God is healing me and has brought us to a church where the father’s love can truly be experienced…where trust will be re-built.

If you attend Cornerstone and are confused, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to you. God gave us the Spirit of Truth who will guide us into all truth (John 15:13)…so use it. Also read 1 Corinthians. Gross sin among Christian leaders is a signal that something is seriously wrong with the church.

  45. @Jehusaid, Funny, I remember MP teaching on Jehu. He was very dramatic and graphic. I also remember a teaching on "what flows from the head, flows down the beard" meaning the anointing from the head (himself) will flow down to the people. It was part of the "Covering Message". If you take his teaching literal and across the board, I guess the sin just recently exposed within his own leadership team flowed down from somewhere..hmmm. Lets see, they are under him and MP is the head. I would start looking at the head more closely to find out what he is up to.

  49. This morning, MP was "out of town" to rest and his brother, RP, conducted preliminaries and took the offering. He spoke for sometime b4 offering, even joking that he would send the mornings preacher back to his Church as he was "doing good" himself. I find it interesting that BOTH men that were sat down due to the gravity of their "sin" were only sat down for two weeks and are now back in high visibility positions in the service.

    ReplyDelete
  50. To Anonymous 3:02 PM,

Yes, it is interesting that both men are back in high visibility positions. However, MP did not sit them down for their sin. He sat them dwon because they did not "follow his directives" when he was out of town prior to the Heaven on Earth Conference.

We all knew that Derek and Robert would be back on the platform for the stratospheric conference because it is all about appearances and images at the Stone. It is exremely sad that Derek and Robert were not sat down for a long time to deal with their sin and the hurt and pain their families and soon to be ex-wives are going through. A truly anointed man of God would call out the sin and deal with it according to the Bible, not merely look the other way so that the sheep of the house don't have a clue as to what is really happening.

The fact that Michael dealt with them for not following his directives tells you that he is about his ego, power and control.

Also, the fact that Michael treated Rich Maus and David Martinez as if they were "heathen" for hearing the Holy Spirit's leading in their lives and deciding to leave CStone, tells you that it is all about MP and images and controlling people.

Rich & David were awesome men of God who saw the sinful ways of the inner circle and could no longer be a part of that. And look how they got treated and lied on. Michael and Robert were so upset with David for leaving, that neither one of them was there during David's last service at CStone. How pitiful.

An honorable and decent pastor would have at least let Rich say good-bye to the children and their parents. Rich served fatithfully at CStone and built a "world class" children's ministry as Michael always boasted. However, when Rich heard from the Holy Spirit for himself and decided to leave, he was lied on and treated with disdain.
Why couldn't Michael just wish him well and send him off with blessing. Answer: MP is a selfish man and Rich was messing up his empire.

It is about power and control with both Robert and Michael. Rich was specifically told not to contact any current or former members of Stone when he left. In fact, his computer had a "thermal meltdown" so that when he returned from taking his last few days of vacation, he could not get any names, email addresses or phone numbers of members from his computer when he retruned to clean out his office. What kind of church does that to an honorable children's pastor who left at the Holy Spirit's leading? Answer: A spiritually abusive one.

God is a loving and patient God, but He will not stand by much longer and allow a corrupt leader continue to teach twisted truths and hurt the sheep. What is done in the dark will be brought into the light. God alone is our heavenly Father who cares for us deeply because He doesn't have ulterior motives. Beware of men who call themselves the "pappa" of the house who set the "culture" of the house. We are to call no man Father except our Father in heaven (Matt. 23:9) Read your Bible people. The Catholics call their spritual leaders Father and have all kinds of protocal they follow. Are those the protocol anointings of which MP preaches about???

Take heed and be careful of calling good evil & evil good.

    Let no man deceive you.

Remember all it takes for evil to take over is for good men to do nothing when they see evil all around.

  51. @Movin' On said... "He sat them down because they did not "follow his directives" when he was out of town prior to the Heaven on Earth Conference." What directives did they ignore? We were told it was a "moral" failure but obviously the "punishment" was shorter in duration than the failure.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I, too, heard nothing about "directives."
I do know the DT situation is an ongoing one. I also know many in the congregation "blame" the women for "throwing themselves" at that "poor man."

Oh, the life of a Christian rock star is hard.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Moral failures, not following directives (perhaps it was the directives on how to deal with the moral failure), whatever the case might be - 2 weeks in time out is a sorry excuse for trying to make it look like MP is doing anything remotely close to what the Word of God says for dealing with sin.

How does a 2 week time out take care of the type of moral failure these men are involved in?

Oh yea, great excuse, the woman made me do it. then maybe the women should be given a 2 week time out as well.

Nonetheless, this is why I am movin' on. I can no longer deal with a church where whatever crazy spirit is on the headship is flowing down to the church members and it sure isn't the anointing.

Leaders with sin in their lives should not be sitting on platforms no matter what their gifting. God help the church of today. It is in much need of repentance and prayer.

  54. Moving On-
I am a current member of Cornerstone Church. I did not know that this was the story behind Thomas' and R. Pitts brief break.

Are you sure about your facts? Are you certain of what happened to Maus and Martinez. I really admired the both of them. If these things are true why have they not said anything? They seem to have simply disappeared from the face of the earth.

I find everthing that is being said on this blog to be incredibly perplexing. If I have concrete proof that even ten percent of this non sense is true, I am finding a new church home.

    ReplyDelete
  55. To Anonymous 4:41 pm:
I appreciate your questions…"Moving On" made statements about Rich Maus and David Martinez. These statements are factual indeed.

There came a time when both of these ministers had to make the difficult decision to follow the Word of the Lord (for their lives) and move on from Cornerstone. A difficult and exhaustive decision that was thoroughly prayed over. They have said nothing derogatory or negative of their service at Cornerstone Church. In fact, they have done nothing but to try to move forward and extend grace and love toward the entire church. All the while, they endured lies being told on them and other various maltreatments that I have not cleared with them to discuss on this blog.

You ask why they just "disappeared". That was not their choosing. They were told by leadership that they were NOT to address the children or congregation in any way (which was hurtful and unfair to them to say the least). They were also told to NOT have any contact with the church after leaving. And from what I’ve been told, neither Michael nor Robert bothered to even wish them the best (either personally or publically.) Another pastor that left was abruptly told -“our attorney will be in contact with you”…dial tone.

Please consider the real questions here: Why did the leadership refuse to allow them to address the children/church members? Why weren’t all their years of hard work and service celebrated upon them leaving? It seemed to me that their service to the church was quite exceptional WHILE they were there...so why would it change the moment they announce they are leaving?

This is EXACTLY how a spiritually abusive system handles such situations. They hide the truth of “why people leave" and never openly address it; unless it's with damage control messages that pacify the members questions. (Much like a dysfunctional alcoholic family hides the truth). So, it's not a matter of "right or wrong" in the eyes of people...it's about obeying the Word of the Lord for YOUR life. Simply put, Michael and Robert did NOT want them to leave and refused to properly bless them on their way out the door.

A LOT of people that leave Cornerstone never really get the chance to say why. They are simply dismissed as “off”, "hurt", or "offended". Most are never spoken to again… or ignored like the plague out in the grocery stores. If indeed these that left are so “off” and Michael and Robert are following the Lord God Almighty himself…”THEN WHAT ARE THEY SO AFRAID OF?”

Sometimes doing the right thing isn’t always popular at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am so disappointed and ashamed that these men were treated this way. As a member of Cornerstone, I apologize for the actions of the ministry heads and any of the other members who have treated former members in such a callous and un-Christian like manner.

I am truly sorry. I DO wish everyone who left the very best. I hope you all continue to find healing and a better way of living your faith, especially good success to those who served so faithfully over the years.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Is it just me, or do some of those ministry wives and Bishops wife treat people kind of poorly...one of the ushers was telling me how Kathi makes it a point to avoid everyone except her inner circle of friends...how can you get to know or trust anyone if they don't even spend time with you on a personal/friendship level? I am going to have to call out all of these people who compliment the pastors and ministers excessively. You don't know what they are really like, because they have zero interest in getting to know you are spending time with you. most uppity church I have ever been to.

    ReplyDelete
  58. To Anonymous 7:37 PM,

Excellent observation and not off the mark by any means. The headship sets things up that way. Unless you are a front rower, the ushers will keep you from the ministry wives & other guest ministry.

I was once chastised for having contact with a guest ministry. How strange I thought that comment was. Why are so many people off limits to the "commoner" of the congregation??

The bottom line is that the headship doesn't really want to get to know you or to have you get to know them. You are there to serve their purpose, they are not their to serve you, heaven forbid! If you have some gift they can take advantage of for their gain, then and only then will you be recognized or acknowledged. This however doesn't mean that you will ever be released to do anything that you feel God has called you to do. That is why so many have sadly left the Stone.

Again, it's a spiritually abusive system and that is why so many things are hidden from everyone, right down to why good and decent pastors leave and are never given the opportunity to say good-bye.

Imagine being the parent of a child in children's ministry under Rich Maus. He tells Michael and Robert one day that he feels led to leave and go in another direction. Then bam, he is no more and is told not to have any contact with any current or former members, and add to that, you can't say good-bye to the children.

Children don't understand when an adult leaves their life, a significant one at that, and no explanation is given. Furthermore, their parents had no idea what to tell the children because no valid explanation was given. Rich was sent off in "the dark of night" so to speak so that no one had any idea what happened. How christian is that? And how damaging to the children who loved him and were left with no good-byes, and no closure, from a pastor who sowed so much into their lives.

Now you can clearly see why so many of us are movin' on. We were dedicated members who came to see the light of truth about Michael's "ministry". The things that have been done to good people who left in no way constitutes a ministry.

I pray for those who are beginning to see the light and are questioning whether or not to leave. If the holy Spirit is tugging at your mind & spirit, obey and don't look back.

There are those of us who struggled with leaving as well, but we eventually found others who left and gained support, love and understanding from them. We are not an "off" in our spirit bunch. I was a tithe paying member for 18 yrs. When I left, not one pastor called to ask about me or if there was something I needed. No, they didn't care because I apparently stopped serving their purpose and agenda and no longer mattered in their eyes.

The comments by former members in these blogs are our personal experiences & those of our friends and pastors who have left. They are not made up or exaggerated. We have all had to pray & carefully weigh our decision to leave.

Does the Bible tells us to cast off those who leave a church because they heard from the Holy Spirit? Is it Christ-like to tell members not to speak to members who have left and to tell pastors who served out of love not to contact anyone? That is abusive control. What exactly are Robert and Michael afraid of if everything they do is Christ-like & done in a spirit of love?

The reality is, there is no love for their sheep. Jesus left the 99 to find the one lost sheep. Are Michael and Robert above that? They will tell you they have a protocol to follow...the protocol anointing you know, the one that is not in the Bible.

The problem is that those who think all of our stories are nonsense are like so many of us were. Before we left, it was easier to believe what we wanted to be true & were told was true, than to think the unthinkable was true. But as we found out, the unthinkable was true and that is why we are movin' on.

24 Within minutes they were bickering over who of them would end up the greatest.

25 But Jesus intervened: "Kings like to throw their weight around and people in authority like to give themselves fancy titles.

What a magnificent model and Savior we have!!!

26 It's not going to be that way with you. Let the senior among you become like the junior; let the leader act the part of the servant.

  61. Wheat or Tares?,

Awesome scripture - very simple illustration of how Jesus came to serve not be served or elevated by titles. No fancy anointed revelation needed to interpret that.

Then again, people don't get all excited about that straight forward teaching of Jesus - there's no higher levels mentioned there or promises of what could be in the next level of glory. No open heavens with all kinds of blessing flowing. No blank check anointings...

So sorry folks. Jesus spent little time teaching on new levels of glory and merely stated the simple, unadulterated ways of following Him. Often those ways brought persecution and much sacrifice to his disciples and believers. But even in all of that, He promised to be with them in their present trials and tribulations, not in some new level of glory to come.

Unfortunately, some of us who's stories appear above should be hearing it from the offender(s) themselves and not from people who have done nothing wrong other than be deceived by a false teacher. I think its the most we can hope for however, so thanks again. Interestingly, the man himself just posted this to facebook . . . "Michael Pitts - on what basis does one created thing judge another created thing..seeing as THE creator has made them for His pleasure..if u are approved of God keep moving forward..imjustsayin" ---> I'll tell you on what basis . . . "judgement begins at the house of God" OR HOW ABOUT I John 4:1 NIV says: “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” AND Ephesians 5:11 NIV says: “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”

Here's a hint MP, try reading the Bible for what it really teaches instead of for manipulative, self-engrandizing and self-enriching sermons only.

Yes it is becoming more painfully obvious with each post on this blog. I don't think that in all of the 18 years I was at CStone I heard as many scriptures as have been shared in these posts. Michael really only stcuk to certain scriptures over and over and used very little from the NT, particularly the gospels.

He really doesn't have anything new anymore, just the same rehashed messages with a slightly new twist.

As Michael always prided himself on because he wasn't religious (hmmm...Bishop garments), he never had any seminary or theological training. Is that now coming to haunt him?

  67. Yep... hilarious watching these FB Nuggets from MP (and Kennedy) come in- This is still his way of saying "you CAN'T judge me... I'm down with THE creator. WE are above judgment from THEY"

(again, "Do not disturb/Leave us alone" = the cry of evil spirits when faced with Truth inescapable)

But David prayed to God to "not incline my heart to any evil thing,
    To practice deeds of wickedness with men who do iniquity;
And do not let me eat of their delicacies.

LET THE RIGHTEOUS SMITE ME IN KINDNESS AND REPROVE ME... IT is oil upon the head; DO NOT LET MY HEAD REFUSE IT, For still my prayer is against their wicked deeds."

(How's that for some "new level" "presence" of "the thinning veil" of a "portal" word thingy? :-D

  68. On of Andrew Kennedy's FB posts today "Awesome day with my family. My wife and kids are awesome. Thinking about how our lives have changed since we got under proper Apostolic anointing. Its not a constraint its a release! Our lives have been enlarged by the mantle Bishop Pitts carry. Something to think about FB! For you to move to the next level, get submitted under proper Apostolic anointing!" (Liked his comments about his family at least.)

  69. I am under "proper Apostolic anointing" -- I serve God through Jesus Christ our savior and am under the apostolic anointing of the Holy Spirit.

    http://charismamag.com/index.php/fire-in-my-bones/19934-reclaiming-genuine-apostolic-anointing

"But a strange thing happened on the way to recovering genuine apostolic anointing. In true American fashion we began to merchandise it.

No sooner had the first book on apostles been written that some men began to claim the title and print it on their business cards. Apostleship became a fad. Before too long, some men were creating networks of independent churches answerable to a governing apostle who took ownership of their buildings and controlled their congregations.

Some charismatic apostles became mini-popes who carved out their fiefdoms. Suddenly the independent charismatic movement had more invasive authoritarianism than the denominations these pastors abandoned 10 years earlier.

In some circles apostles demanded total allegiance from the leaders who were "under" them. "

    1. True apostles are servants. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12:28: "And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues" (NASB, emphasis added). When carnally minded people read this verse they assume God has set up some kind of ecclesiastical hierarchy, with apostles sitting on thrones at the top.

But if we view leadership in the way Jesus taught it, we know that being first is not about being on top. Apostles are at the bottom of the pecking order. They are the servants of all. And because they serve a foundational role, their work will often remain hidden in obscurity. They are not looking for fame or celebrity, nor are they grasping for a title; their role is to empower everyone else.

    2. True apostles are unselfish. I know one apostle in India who goes by the name of Pastor Howell. He has planted 600 churches in the Punjab region, trained countless young church leaders in a makeshift Bible school and led thousands of people to Christ. He has also seen whole villages impacted by the gospel through one miracle of healing. He has never ridden in a limousine and he lives in a modest home with a straw roof that he shares with about 12 Bible college students.

The apostle Paul would have gagged if he could see how some modern American apostles profit from their downlines or how they require pampered treatment. Apostleship has nothing to do with privilege. In fact Paul sometimes made tents for a living in order to avoid the appearance of entitlement.

    3. True apostles share Christ's suffering. True apostles live on the edge. They push the boundaries of Christianity forward, into hostile territory—and as a result they encounter more than their fair share of persecution and spiritual warfare. They are never content to live in a comfort zone. Yet even in foreign prisons they find joy and fulfillment.

  70. Chapter and verse there, AK ? "For you to move to the next level, get submitted under proper Apostolic anointing" My heart honestly hurts to see such self-deception among men who cannot find the Light switch. May the Master keep us humbly reminded... "TAKE HEED THAT NO MAN DECEIVE YOU" (even if we ourselves are that man!)

I really hope a return to the eternal counsel of God's Word will envelop him before his journey to "the Dark Side" is complete... :-(

  71. Titus 2:

"You must teach what is in accord with SOUND DOCTRINE. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance."

"Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, SO THAT NO ONE WILL MALIGN THE WORD OF GOD."

"Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching SHOW INTEGRITY, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, SO THAT THOSE WHO OPPOSE YOU MAY BE ASHAMED BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT US."

"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say NO to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good."

"These, then, are the things you should teach. ENCOURAGE AND REBUKE WITH ALL AUTHORITY. Do not let anyone despise you."
